Mariangelo Ploner head of the family and builder of our Hotel Gran Paradiso, handed the reins over to his son Walter Ploner who ran it from 1967 to 2006 with his wife Anna.
Walter, an Italian motocross champion and multiple Italian and European snowmobile champion, has handed his passion for sport down to his three sons. Claudio Ploner, the first-born has been Italian snowmobile champion several times. Alessandro Ploner the youngest son has been four-time world hang-gliding champion and won two team gold medals at the world hang-gliding championships, also harbouring a passion for snowmobile, becoming Italian champion at that sport too.
Roland Ploner, the middle son, with his wife Katherina, took over the reins of running the hotel in 2006.
Roland has been Italian snowmobile champion several times and he is an expert skier, taking part in many Italian and international competitions as well as being a superb ski instructor. During the summer his passion for two wheels takes over, and he has also taken part in some major events in this field with some excellent results and high placings.
